We are very pleased to announce that the future of our flight training operations at the Institute of Aviation is looking bright. Please read more about it in the following articles.
Board of Trustees Votes In Favor of the Proposal to Close the Institute of Aviation
The Board of Trustees meeting in Chicago was a disappointing outcome for everyone involved with the Institute of Aviation. Chancellor Easter's proposal for the discontinuation of the undergraduate programs and the Institute of Aviation at the UIUC campus was presented to the Board of Trustees. Tom Emanuel, Dana Dann-Messier, and Alan Englehardt all spoke on behalf of the Institute of Aviation during the public comment portion of the meeting. Of the 8 voting Trustees, 6 voted in favor of the proposal and 2 voted against it. Three student trustees, who have advisory votes, each voted against the proposal.
While this is a sad day, it is not the end. We will continue to provide quality education to our current students who are enrolled in our two academic curriculum. We will also continue looking for a new home within other academic institutions. The Institute of Aviation's doors will remain open and the Institute Administration will do everything in our power to ensure a future for our amazing program.
This process has been long and could not have gone this far without hundreds of people. I want to tell you how amazing it has been to see the staff, students, parents, and alumni pull together and let the University of Illinois administration know the importance and value of the Institute of Aviation. Over the past two years of this review process, the letters, phone calls, picket attendance, and even facebook posts have been amazing. No matter what the administration of this campus has decided today, we are and forever will be "Flying Illini".
